Mossy mountain stream, 8 hours
A clear stream runs over mossy stones in a shaded forest. The water is close and babbling, with a breeze somewhere far off in the trees.

What it is
The picture is a small mountain stream tumbling over green, mossy rocks under a forest canopy, colour-graded toward evening. The sound is mostly water: a bright, busy babble close to you, with a softer rush further upstream and a light wind in the branches. It is brighter than rain, with more high-frequency detail, and it doesn’t have the slow in-and-out of ocean waves. The screen dims from 2:00 and is near-black from 5:00.
How to use it for sleep
Running water is good at covering voices and TV through a wall, because so much of its energy sits in the same range as speech. That same brightness can feel a bit lively at high volume, so keep it low and across the room. If you find it too busy, the slow ocean swell is calmer, and our white noise page explains why bright sounds mask speech so well.
Best for
Shared houses, apartments with talkative neighbours, people who love hiking and camping, and daytime sleepers. Not sure how much sleep you are aiming for? The sleep-by-age chart has the expert-panel ranges. For more water sounds, see our ocean and water sounds guide.
Sound design note
The stream and wind are generated by SleepBetter’s sound engine, with no samples and no loops. A real brook has a few loud, splashy spots; we smoothed those out and kept the babble even, so there is nothing to catch your attention after you drift off.
How this was made
Audio: stream and wind generated by SleepBetter’s own sound engine (no samples, no loops). Footage: mossy mountain stream and cascades from free stock under the Pexels License, colour-graded and looped by SleepBetter. No AI-generated picture or voice.
