How to Sleep Better After Drinking Alcohol

What Alcohol Does to Sleep Architecture

Don't rely on melatonin to rescue the night. Melatonin won't counteract alcohol's effects on sleep architecture. It may help slightly with sleep onset, but the rebound fragmentation later in the night is driven by alcohol metabolism, not melatonin levels.

Don't sleep in. The temptation after a bad night is to sleep as long as possible. This delay your next night's sleep, creates a negative cycle, and doesn't actually improve how you feel. Get up at your normal time, get light, and let recovery happen across the day rather than extending the disrupted sleep.
